Ice, water, mountains... everything you need to symbolize a treacherous journey... like depression.

Purpose 1: Give Voice to My Journey and My Depression

I find one of the most frustrating things in life is when I feel like I'm not being heard.  Well, I have a lot to say, and not everyone around me wants to hear it when I want to say it.  My therapist told me to journal, but that would still mean no one would be listening.

So this is where I'll be sharing with the whole world my very personal journey.  My thoughts on various topics from the scientific to the esoteric.  The humorous to the serious.  The exciting to the mundane. Each topic has in some way informed and shaped who I am, and where I am today.

Maybe you won't resonate with any of it, but maybe there's a nugget of wisdom in there that could help you.

Maybe it will just be your entertainment, in which case you're welcome for making you smile.

Maybe no one will read it, in which case ... well, this one was about me anyway.

If you don't start with you, you're not starting at all.

Purpose 2: Help As Many People As Possible

This one is about you.

Your journey is your own, and my journey is my own.  We have different lives and different experiences.

After coping with depression for the better part of 30+ years, I can finally say that I am now living with depression; not coping with it; not running from it; and not just getting by.  It has become a fully integrated part of my life.  Something I never thought possible.

My journey tells me that there is hope ... hope that it is possible to live a long, productive, even dare I say happy life with depression.

Seriously.

I wish I had the energy and strength to help people in so many tangible ways, but this is what I have to offer.  So I will do my best to share stories that I think could help people, and not just people with depression, but for all of those around us who want to better understand and support us.

Just remember that we need to let them provide us help and support we need.

Purpose 3: Detoxify Masculinity & Destigmatize Depression

It's funny how you can actually do both of these at the same time just by being honest and empathetic.

We, as men (and as a society) need to do a better job supporting each other instead of undermining each other.

A single reed even a child can break.  But a bunch of reeds banded together can't be broken by the strongest person.

We are better together.

We are stronger together.
